lo primero un apollo a ese blog de los compañero de ugt almeria, y que pronto podamos gastar unos minutos de nuestro tiempo abriendo su pagina. un abrazo pepe, otra cosa solo espero que tal decisión se tomase desde "dentro", sería aún peor.

Postal unions lobby Strasbourg vote

As decision time is fast approaching over the future for Europe’s postal system, postal unions will be lobbying a key committee of the European Parliament in Strasbourg tonight (18 June).
The Transport Committee is bringing together reactions and amendments to the European Commission’s draft directive to remove all remaining protections from traditional postal operators from 1 January 2009.
UNI-Europa Post and Logistics is urging parliamentarians to oppose both the draft directive and to vote down an amendment that would simply defer the implementation of the directive for two to four years.
Postal unions want a full assessment of the impact of the de-regulation that has taken place in Europe over the last decade before any decision to remove the remaining monopoly on letters up to 50 grams is taken.
Without the ability of operators to cross-subsidise services to rural, mountainous and island communities from their profitable, protected urban services the universal postal service to customers at an affordable price wherever they live is threatened.
UNI-Europa Post and Logistics also wants evidence of how new jobs can be created in the postal system and how a trend towards precarious employment can be averted.

The amendment being promoted by Bavarian CSU Marcus Ferber leaves unresolved how funding for the universal postal service and protecting decent jobs will be achieved. He simply proposes a two-year delay for most states until the end of 2010 and a four-year delay until the end of 2012 for new member states and those with special circumstances (like Greece with its many islands).

“There is no logic in deciding end dates without having first assessed the evidence on de-regulation so far and come up with solutions to the problems,” said UNI-Europa Post and Logistics John Pedersen.
“We have always wanted a full debate on how society can best benefit from postal services and how decent work can be defended in the postal networks - old and new.
“If Europe gets this wrong consumers in many communities and postal workers will pay the price. We want decent services for the public put before political liberalisation dogma.”

A vote of the full European Parliament is due in early July.

UNI-Europa Post and Logistics is taking its fight to defend the universal postal service to the political groupings and members of the European Parliament.
This follows a setback decision on 18 June by the Transport Committee of the Parliament to support a compromise proposal, which would see the European Commission achieving its goal of a completely de-regulated postal market but over a longer period.
The so-called Ferber compromise would delay full market opening (and the removal of the monopoly for traditional operators on letters of up to 50 grams) from the Commission’s proposed date of 1 January, 2009 until the end of 2010 for most states and 2012 for new member states and those with special circumstances (like Greece with its many island communities).
UNI-Europa Post and Logistics had urged committee members to throw out both the original draft directive from the Commission and the Ferber compromise.
Both routes lead to full de-regulation without any clear formula for protecting universal postal services in a market free-for-all and without effective measures to avoid cuts in jobs and working conditions (wage dumping).
UNI-Europa Post and Logistics wants a promised review of the last decade of liberalisation in post before any commitment or date to remove the remaining postal monopoly - which allows traditional operators to cross subsidise services to rural, mountain and island communities from urban profits.
Without protections operators in a free market are likely to cherry pick profitable services and those living away from urban centres could face worse - and more expensive - services.
UNI-Europa Post and Logistics’ John Pedersen and Jacky Arches (FO-COM France) were at the meeting of the Transport Committee urging them to oppose target dates until after a review is carried out. Support for the Ferber compromise came from the People’s Parties, the Socialists and the Liberals and produced a 38-6 vote.
The full European Parliament will now vote on the issue - which touches on the right to communication and on tens of thousands of postal jobs - on 10 July in Strasbourg.
“It’s a setback but we have the support of many operators and governments and - we believe - the European public, who want to keep affordable postal services for all,” said John Pedersen. “We shall continue the fight.”
